F A Q
What are head lice?
Head lice are tiny insects that live in human hair. They hatch from small eggs, called nits, which are attached to the base of individual hairs. The eggs hatch in about 7 to 10 days with new lice reaching maturity in about 10 days. The female louse can live for 20 to 30 days, and can lay as many as six eggs a day. Since lice multiply fast, they should be treated promptly.
Who gets them? How are they spread?
Anyone can become infected with head lice. It does not matter whether your hair is straight or curly, blond or brunette, long or short and, contrary to popular belief, lice tend to prefer clean rather than dirty hair. Head lice cannot jump or fly. They are usually transmitted through direct head to head contact or by sharing infected items such as combs, brushes, hats and scarves, etc.
What signs should I look for?
Persistent itching of the head and back of the neck can indicate head lice. You should also look for infected scratch marks or a rash on the scalp. Most important of all, look for nits attached to individual hairs. These can be seen with the naked eye, but you can probably identify them more easily with the aid of a magnifying glass under strong light. Sometimes small white specks in the hair, such as dandruff or accumulated hair spray, can be confused with nits. Try removing the specks from the hair shaft. Dandruff or hair spray will come off easily nits are very difficult to remove. Check with a health professional if you are not sure whether head lice are present.
Are there other symptoms?
Occasionally there will be swelling in the lymph glands in the neck or under the arms. There may also be mild fever or muscular aches. These symptoms generally indicate severe cases of head lice. Contact your doctor for advice or treatment.
Should other family members be checked?
Yes. If one member of your family has head lice, all household members should be checked and treated promptly.
My whole family has head lice. Can I use Quellada Head Lice Treatment on my baby as well?
Seek medical advice before use on children under 2 years of age.
Can I use Quellada Head Lice Treatment if I am pregnant?
Seek medical advice before use if you are pregnant.
Can I use Quellada Head Lice Treatment if I am breastfeeding?
Seek medical advice before use if planning to breastfeed or breastfeeding.
How can I prevent head lice in the future?
All family members should avoid borrowing personal items combs, brushes, hats, helmets, hair accessories, towels or clothing from each other or from friends. It is best for everyone to use their own personal articles.
How to treat the environment?
All articles that may harbour lice or nits, such as clothes, towels and bed linens, should be washed in hot water and detergent. Items that cannot be washed should be dry-cleaned or sealed in a plastic bag for 7 to 10 days. Combs, brushes and hair clips, etc., should also be washed in hot water and detergent.
Should I give my family a regular treatment of Quellada, just in case?
No. After one infestation, it is recommended that you repeat the process after 7 to 10 days to treat any lice that may have hatched from eggs that were not removed during the first treatment. Only use Quellada Head Lice Treatment when you can see live lice or their eggs. Do not use Quellada Head Lice Treatment regularly or to prevent head lice.
How should you store Quellada Head Lice Treatment?
Store the product below 30oC. To store unused contents, remove applicator cap and replace with original cap.
